Kill-A-Watt: 7th Annual Energy Conservation Competition
Win scholarships! Make a difference! Protect our environment! Learn new ways to save money by saving energy.
For the last 6 years, the Department of Sustainability & Energy Management, in conjunction with UCF Housing and Residence Life, has led a campaign to reward students who reduce their personal energy consumption. Overtime, the name, rules, and incentives have seen several revisions but the exponential growth in energy savings is consistent. Last year’s campaign boasted 37% reductions in some communities with an overall savings of $48,825.00. Since its inception, the Energy Competition’s efforts’ has surmounted to an estimated $146,765.00 in energy savings… but we aren’t stopping there.
This year, the rules will stay the same but the rewards have gotten a lot more serious.
5 GRAND PRIZE $750 scholarships
5 Runner Up $350 scholarships
5 Honorable Mention $100 scholarships
Think this could be you?! We think so too. Here’s how to participate…
Starting February 1st 2013, residents will work together to reduce their building energy usage. To make things fair, we’ve separated buildings into 5 different groups according to size. For example, Group 5 is comprised of the entire Towers Community. Buildings within a particular group compete to achieve the greatest energy reduction. Buildings must achieve at least a 20% reduction by the end of the competition! Residents of best performing buildings are eligible for scholarships provided by SGA and will receive notification via email stating scholarship eligibility. To claim your scholarship, type an essay or record a webcam video answering the question "What did I do to save energy?" Ultimately, we want to know why you think reducing your energy usage is important to UCF and the global community.
FYI: Every on-campus resident is invited to participate.
A full list of rules and restrictions will be sent via email to every on-campus resident.
